POTTY TRAINING: I GOT IT ALL WRONG.

Hi Loves, welcome back to my blog. It’s been a while I published motherhood post. In today’s post, I will be sharing my experience when I was Potty Training My Cuties.

As a first time mother, one of the most frustrating moments for me was when I was weaning my Cuties off diaper and started teaching them to use the potty. Potty training is difficult on its own, imagine having to train two kids at a time.

The first time I started potty training was when they were a little over 2 years of age as a lot of people say that once your child is 2 years old, they are ready for potty training and oh boy, was I wrong. I started teaching them how to use the potty without any success. I thought I was doing it right and my kids were just being difficult, I WAS WRONG. I didn’t obey the first rule  of potty training; child’s readiness.

Readiness, not because they were  two and automatically, they should have started using potty like some other kids but their ability to listen and understand what I was trying to teach them.

OMG, it was so frustrating. I set a routine for them, I will put them on their potties 2 hourly and encourage them to pee or poo and tell them to let me know once they need to pee or poo again. They would sit on their potties for a long period of time without a drop of pee, Immediately the diaper reached their bum, they start to pee. They heard me but they didn’t understand what I was saying. They thought it was all a game. In the process of trying to instil this into them, I was only straining my self and getting  frustrated. Then, I stopped, let them be and I tried again couple of months later. That time, they were ready. The training was easy peesy and less stressful. Within a few weeks, our potty training was successful.

Since then, I have learnt one of the most important lessons as a Mom, every child is different and patience is key. I know I will get it right this second time In Shaa Allah.

I think my 16 month old is showing some signs of readiness. She is pointing to her nappy when she is weeing and 70% of her poop already happens on the toilet. I don’t consider her ready though because she will still quite often pee on the toilet and then pee on the floor after you take her off the toilet lol. I think when she figures out that the toilet and the toilet only is for peeing then we will get there.
